Book Cheap Flights to San Francisco, United States
The peak season to visit San Francisco is the summer season from June to August. The city has dry summers due to the Mediterranean climate and it generally ranges from 83-86 deg F. It would be sunny and warm with extended hours of daylight with almost zero rainfall- a dream scenario that would allow you to enjoy North Beach Festival and Filmore Street Jazz Festival besides the regular tourist attractions. It would be best to book your tickets early to avoid last minute rush and inflated prices. If you’re looking for budget holidays here, you can travel here during the winter season from December to February. It would be chilly, rainy and even stormy 66-72 deg F but this time of the year also comes with Christmas and New Year celebrations plus slashed hotel and flights rates.
The city is served by San Francisco International Airport. It is the largest airport in the San Francisco Bay Area and the second busiest in California. It is a hub of United Airlines and Virgin America. San Francisco was one of the first airports to implement a Fly Quiet Program to encourage airlines to operate as quietly as possible while being in premises. It offers multiple flights throughout North America and to Europe and Asia, and some of the most popular destinations here would include Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Beijing, Paris, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Copenhagen, Sydney, Frankfurt and Mexico City. The airlines offering flying services here are British Airways, KLM, Emirates, Etihad Airways and Lufthansa.
Places of Interest in San Francisco
San Francisco is a city in California. It is known for its summer fog, natural beauty, beaches, cable cars and Victorian architecture and besides being home to the one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World (the Golden Gate Bridge), a 19th century prison house of Civil War’s Prisoners of War (Alcatraz Prison), a souvenir of the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition (the elegant Palace of Fine Arts) and the tallest building in the city (the Transamerica Pyramid).
The Golden Gate Bridge
One of the most famous bridges in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is the first thing you would see while coming into the city from the north. This suspension bridge has the country’s second-longest main span at 1280 meters for any bridge and this fact makes it even more glorious when seen in the light of a hundred year old engineering. It was then believed that no bridge could possibly be built across the 6700 feet wide Golden Gate strait because of strong tidal currents and strong winds.
Alcatraz Prison
Alcatraz Island is located about one mile offshore from San Francisco. First mentioned by a Spanish sailor in 1775 AD, this small island was a military fortification and prison in 1868 AD. It was shut down as a prison in 1963 owing to overburdening financial and environmental costs, but not before it had been the penal house for a number of American gangsters like Al Capone and RF Stroud (aka the Birdman). The city celebrates an event called Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in June where participants, including some Olympian medallists, swim 1.5 miles through icy waters of the San Francisco Bay before biking and running for another 25 miles.
Fisherman’s Wharf
The Fisherman’s Wharf is a beautiful waterfront in San Francisco. While you can simply take a stroll or enjoy seafood here, it would also be worthwhile to visit here for some 19th century chocolate-making machines (in Ghirardelli Square), aquariums, Second World War submarines, museums (like Madame Tussade Wax Museum and San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park) or take a ferry trip to the Alcatraz Prison.
