Old Fortress
Built in 1546 by the Venetians, Old Fortress is located on a small peninsula immediately east to the old town of Corfu. The citadel looks magnificently specially when viewed from the sea. Inside the Old Fortress, there is a small church built in by British in the style of a Doric temple. The lighthouse of this citadel is its highest point and offers magnificent views east across the sea towards Albania and west over the Corfu town.
The Esplanade
A vast green space, the Esplanade is located between the buildings of the old town and the Old Fortress. It is the second largest square in Europe and the main public gathering space in Corfu. The Esplanade is overlooked by the arcaded Liston which is home to a row of cafes. There is also a bandstand where visitors can occasionally witness the performances of brass bands.
